A golf slice is probably the most frustrating fault you'll see on tee.

Swinging at the ball hard, with the aim to drive it 240, 250 yards or further, only to see it go into the rough is frustrating, to say the least.

So how to avoid slicing?

There is - your aim is to get a small draw instead - curving the ball to the left. Doing so will actually increase the length of your shots by up to 27 yards!

Here are a some tips to help you stop slicing from tee:

Check that your set-up is correct to begin with:

Ensure that you are parallell to the target line. Check that your back is slightly tilted to your right. Make sure that your hands are ahead of the ball, if not you're set-up for disaster! And look at how your grip is. It should be strong, without being tense. A weak grip will make your hands "flop" around themselves, and the release of your hands won't happen.

Here's a simple tip: wear a wristwatch on the inside of your left wrist! On the follow - up the watch face should be visible.

This ensures your arms and hands "roll over" the correct way.

Here are some good drills:

Hit shots with your feet together - sounds weird, but the logic of it is that you just have to release your hands, otherwise the ball will definitely go to the right.

Another simple drill - go swing on an uphill slope, where you stand below the ball. This forces you to swing so the club head automatically comes from the inside, giving you the desired draw shot.

If you consistently slice your shots, then the easiest way to start hitting draws instead is to actively try to over correct by actually setting up for a draw.

Keep practising this and you'll find you soon will stop slicing.

But remember this is a temporary measure to "deprogram" your brain and muscle memory, so your old habits get weakened!

Don't think that it is the way to swing in the future - you will be very disappointed if you do ...

To change your golf swing is quite difficult, since it is a complicated manoeuver and you simply can't swing if you think too much about it!

It has to become ingrained. To summarise:: check the points mentioned above, swing until it feels natural and then let go and enjoy the game.

Your swing will improve!
